Seasons Sportfishing - Limits of White Sea Bass - 5.12.12

So for those of you who have been keeping up with my reports, I've been griping about landing a goat for a while. So I decided to reach out to Jamie from Seasons Sportfishing to see if he had some pretty good goat spots around Catalina. He said he knew of a couple of good spots, so we set the trip up. As the trip got closer and closer, the trip was looking better and better as Catalina had started to produce some nice fish.
Seasons Sportfishing Seabass Catalina Report 5/5/12

Well we were back at it again this weekend with a father and son charter to get over to Catalina for a days fishing.

The idea when doing these types of trips, is making sure the (2) 9 year old boys catch some fish!

We got loaded up a lil late but made it off with a bright moon for our crossing and pretty good weather to go with it on Saturday.

Got tanked up from Marie Claire and headed to the zone where the day before it snapped for a few boats...

We showed up and put the hook down for a diffrent day and current not doing anything really... So we gave the exotic thing a try and so it was off just to catch some fish for the boys and

The Yellows are showing from first light to 0900 and goodbye for private boaters

I got to the La Jolla fishing area for yellowtail Friday at 0600 and shortly found the San Diego fishing there. At 0630 I ran for some birds and yellows were boiling and I threw a live sardine at them and a few seconds later caught an 18.1 pounder. After that I never saw another opportunity and according to radio chatter it was all over at 0900 for us private boaters. I also ran into the Pride who I fished for white seabass with last season. The water was 60 degrees and off color. The shallow water rock cod were small starrys in that area of almost 200 feet deep waste of time and I saw a skiff shaking them off his hooks as well. I would suggest 20 pound fluro top shot and light wire 2/0 ringed hook for the large sardines and stealth presentation.

04.22.12 - Aloha Spirit - Full Speed Rockfishing

As a customer of Richard's Tackle, I've bought lots of tackle and learned a lot from them, but I've never fished with them before; well it was time to change that. I checked out their charter schedule a few weeks back and found out that Helen and I would be able to make this trip. Turns out Richard's charters on the Aloha Spirit leaves an hour early, at 4AM. Also, included in the charter price is fish cleaning.

Saturday was a hectic day and I didn't get home and get my gear together till about 10:30. Got in just under two hours of sleep before I was on the road to pick up Helen and meet up with everyone at Richard's Tackle. Once everyone had arrived, we kind of figured out carpool situations and off we went.

04.19.12 - San Diego - Big Yellows

Been watching the counts ever since the weather laid down and sure enough the Yellows started to bite this week. With the counts getting bigger and bigger as the week went on, I decided to bail out of work and fish Thursday. I figured Thursday would be a lighter load since most people are probably more comfortable ditching on a Friday.

Last fish of the day on a Jpot surface iron.
